M V Kamath turns 89 on 7th sept 2010.......
I have been quite lucky in getting and opportunity to not only work very closely with some of the nation builders of free India , but also received their long lasting love & affection. One such father figure who continues to shower his blessings on me and my family is ,Padma Bhushan M V Kamath', the former chairman of Prasar Bharati . He was the Washington Correspondent of 'Times of India' during 1969-78. He has also served as editor of 'The Illustrated Weekly of India'.
On 7th sept.2010, I called him up at Manipal ( he is currently the Honorary Director of Manipal Institute of Communication) to wish him a Happy birthday when he turned 89. He was in his elements. Touch wood his faculties are razor sharp. Mark Twain once said-- Life would be infinitely happier if we could only be born at the age of eighty and gradually approach eighteen.
During his tenure as the chairman of Prasar Bharti he attended all my TV functions without fail. He has always been a source of encouragement for me. I had organised Navjyoti awards for the empowerment of the Girl Child . 9 girls from the poorest of the poor families were selected with the help of UNICEF and were felicitated in a function wherein Mr M V Kamath , Raveena Tandon, Yukta mukhi, Aruna Irani, Madam Grace Pinto (of Ryan Education group), Rupa shah (Former VC) and others were present.
The posted video is a small speech by MV Kamath on the occasion.
Dear Mukesh,
ReplyDeleteGood to know that your interest in SAHYADRI (which was your creation) is still going strong. I wish all good media men like you keep up the spirit of healthy continuity - always linking TRADITION with TOMORROW, PARAMPARA with PRAGATI.
Good luck to you and your family.
Ameen Sayani.

ReplyDeleteNice old memories. your attire in different functions looks very pleasing nd attractive. sharing dias with renowned personalities speaks for itself. great going...keep it up.
Mr. M.V. Kamath ("Madhav-bhai" to me) is not only one of India's greatest communicators and journalists, but also
ReplyDeletean exceptionally introspective and erudite narrator of contemporary Indian history, culture and trends. I feel that he could have taken Prasar Bharati to new heights if his age, health and the rather constricting atmosphere of the organization had allowed him to do so.
Apart from his many achievements, he also happens to be one of the nicest human beings I've ever known. Let's all wish him a healthy and happy 89th birthday – and many
more to come.
